Shift Up Confirms Sequel to Stellar Blade Scheduled for 2027 Release
Shift Up, the South Korean game development studio renowned for the acclaimed action RPG Stellar Blade, has officially stated that a sequel is in the works and is slated for release in 2027. This announcement was discreetly disclosed in the company’s latest financial report, which details its strategic objectives and vision for the future.
Initially launched in April 2024 as a PlayStation 5 exclusive, Stellar Blade garnered a generally favorable response from both critics and gamers. The game was commended for its breathtaking post-apocalyptic environment, seamless combat mechanics, and an engaging main character. CGMagazine’s review pointed out that the title “aims to leave its own imprint on the post-apocalyptic wasteland genre and largely succeeds when its writing permits.”
Sequel Confirmed in Financial Earnings Report
The revelation regarding the sequel was made via a bar graph included in Shift Up’s financial earnings statement, which outlined the company’s anticipated revenue and forthcoming projects. The chart, extending through 2027, clearly identifies a sequel to Stellar Blade as an integral part of the firm’s long-term vision. Although no precise title or gameplay insights have been disclosed, the presence of the sequel in the report strongly indicates that development is already in progress.
The financial summary underlines Shift Up’s “Core Strategy” to “Create games that receive enduring love and support.” This philosophy aligns with the studio’s prior endeavors, especially with their successful live-service mobile title, NIKKE: Goddess of Victory.
PC Port and Broader Platform Availability
In conjunction with the financial report, Shift Up also declared that Stellar Blade will be branching out beyond the PlayStation platform. A PC version of the game is set to launch on June 11, 2025, marking the initiation of what the company describes as a “Platform Expansion.” This initiative is likely aimed at widening the game’s reach and harnessing its impressive sales performance, which the company asserts has “surpassed expectations” since its initial release.
Possibility of Live-Service Features
Curiously, the financial report also suggests the potential for integrating live-service features into upcoming projects. Within the Core Strategy section, Shift Up includes “Potential of Live Services” next to both Stellar Blade and a future project currently referred to as “Project Witches.” The latter is characterized as a “AAA urban sci-fi action RPG,” indicating that Shift Up aims to diversify its offerings while utilizing its expertise in the live-service arena.
Given the studio’s success with NIKKE: Goddess of Victory, it’s reasonable to consider that the Stellar Blade sequel could introduce optional live-service features or enhanced post-launch content, despite the original game not being a live-service title.
What Lies Ahead for Stellar Blade?
Although the 2027 release date is still a few years off, the confirmation of a sequel is exhilarating news for fans of the series. With the PC launch approaching and the prospects for expanded content or novel gameplay elements, Stellar Blade seems poised to be a critical aspect of Shift Up’s future initiatives.
As with all early development announcements, fans should manage their expectations until more definitive information is shared. Nevertheless, the financial report presents a promising outlook for the future of the Stellar Blade franchise and Shift Up’s aspirations as an emerging contender in the global gaming landscape.
